Three generations on the same roads.
Corfu Transfers & Tours has arranged private travel on Corfu since 1978. The name on the licence has changed twice; the roads, and the reason people call us, have not.
The office opened in 1978, two streets from where it is now, with one car and a telephone. Corfu had a different kind of visitor then: fewer of them, staying longer, arriving by boat as often as by plane. What they wanted was somebody who knew which road was passable in April and which taverna would still be serving at four in the afternoon.
That is still the job. The fleet is larger and the telephone is a good deal busier, but the thing we are actually selling has not changed: a driver who has been up that road this week, a price agreed before you travel, and someone in an office in Corfu who answers when something goes wrong.
What we do
We run three things that overlap more than they look like they should.
- Private journeys around the island, priced per vehicle rather than per person, with a licensed driver and, where it is worth it, a state-licensed guide.
- Airport transfers, exclusively to and from Corfu Airport, with the flight tracked and the fare fixed before you land.
- Shipping agency work for vessels calling at Corfu, which is the oldest part of the business and the least visible from the outside.
Why per vehicle, not per person
Because a family of four is not four times as much work as one person, and pricing it that way would be pretending otherwise. A saloon costs what a saloon costs to put on the road for a day. It is a less profitable way to price a tour and a considerably easier one to explain.
What we are not
We do not run coach tours, we do not sell tickets for other people's excursions, and we do not operate resort-to-resort transfers. Those are all reasonable businesses; they are just not this one, and being clear about it saves everybody a phone call.
